Trump: CHIP should not be included in stopgap bill

President Donald Trump tweeted his disapproval Thursday for the inclusion of Children's Health Insurance Program funding in a stopgap bill.

Republican House leaders included six years of CHIP funding in an emergency bill that must pass before Friday at midnight to avoid a government shutdown. The CHIP measures were included to help garner the support of congressional Democrats, though President Trump believes the program should be addressed in separate legislation.

"CHIP should be part of a long term solution, not a 30 Day, or short term, extension!" President Trump tweeted.

CHIP funding expired Sept. 30, but Congress approved a short-term measure in December to finance the program until March 31.
