In a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session on Feb. 27, users asked Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates what pieces of advice he would give his 19-year-old self, according to CNBC.
Here are the three things Mr. Gates said.
1. Intelligence comes in many forms. "I would explain that smartness is not single-dimensional and not quite as important as I thought it was back then," he wrote on Reddit.
2. Travel while you're young. "I would say you might want to explore the developing world before you get into your 40s," Mr. Gates wrote. In his case, it changed the course of his life. When he and his wife Melinda traveled to Africa in 1993, the poverty they witnessed made an impact, partially causing them to found the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
3. Work on sociability. "I wasn't very good socially back then but I am not sure there is advice that would fix that — maybe I had to be awkward and just grow up," he wrote.
