Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health and Grand Rapids Community College have established a $7 million scholarship fund to support students who want to pursue careers in healthcare or health sciences, according to a MLive.com report.
The launch of the scholarship fund was preceded by Spectrum Health's $5 million purchase of the community college's athletic field and track, according to the report.
The scholarship fund will be called the Spectrum Health Foundation and the health system will transfer the $7 million to Grand Rapids Community College.
"We are pleased to partner with GRCC to create opportunities for students who may not otherwise have the financial resources to pursue a healthcare degree," said Spectrum Health President and CEO Richard Breon, according to the report. "The partnership also helps strengthen the economic health of our region and ensures we have a pipeline of healthcare workers."
