Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga., is cutting 80 jobs as part of organizational restructuring efforts, according to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The cuts include management positions.
Southern Regional Medical Center President and CEO Kim Ryan said in the report that the layoffs are part of the hospital's plan for long-term survival and sustainability.
Hospital officials attributed the hospital's financial problems, in part, to an increase in uncompensated care, as well as a drop in managed care volume and patient care volume overall, especially surgical volumes, and cuts in federal and state funding, according to the report.
