South Shore Health eliminates 27 managerial, administrative jobs in cost-saving move

South Weymouth, Mass.-based South Shore Health System laid off 27 employees in management and administrative positions to cut costs, according to a Boston Business Journal report.

Hospital officials attributed the layoffs to lower payer reimbursements, patient use and higher cost of care delivery. Gene Green, MD, CEO of South Shore Health, told Boston Business Journal "a series of cost-savings measures have been enacted, the latest being a staffing re-organization at the management and administrative support levels."

The layoffs reflect less than 1 percent of the system's 5,471 employees. South Shore Health said the layoffs do not include patient caregiver positions.
