Slidell (La.) Memorial Hospital and New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System have finalized their previously announced strategic partnership.
Here are seven things to know about the partnership.
1. The partnership, both clinically and financially, is expected to create greater opportunity to optimize care delivery in the Slidell community and to expand patient services and resources in the region.
2. Under the partnership, SMH and Ochsner have the ability to collaborate with physicians to share best practices, expand services and implement technology that is advanced and patient-centered.
3. Both organizations will be involved in decisions such as leadership selection, investments and optimization of services.
4. Additionally, joint activity across the partnership will be coordinated by a strategic oversight committee that will include representatives from SMH and Ochsner. However, SMH will remain independent.
5. SMH CEO Bill Davis expressed excitement over the partnership. "By maintaining the local identity and governance of SMH while at the same time improving access to care, efficiency and quality of care, this partnership brings the best of all worlds to the community we serve. This is a proactive and responsible move to ensure that SMH remains the strong and vital organization it is today," he said in a news release.
6. The partnership follows a comprehensive review process with the Louisiana Attorney
General.
7. The partnership went into effect Jan. 1.
