A number of employees at Sharon (Pa.) Regional Health System were laid off or saw their hours reduced on Tuesday, according to The Herald.
Here are three things to know about the cuts.
1. The hospital did not provide The Herald with exact figures, though employees told the publication approximately 70 workers were affected.
2. Sharon Regional said its goal with the layoffs is "to serve the volume of patients in our care."
"Some of our employees are being placed on furlough and we are reducing hours for some positions,'' Lisa DiMuccio-Zgela, Sharon Regional's director of marketing and community relations, said in a Wednesday news release, according to the report. "Furloughed employees will retain their positions and those who are eligible will keep their benefits for up to 90 days if necessary.''
3. The layoff news comes as Sharon Regional, which is owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, is financially squeezed, with state, federal and private insurers seeking to reduce costs, according to the report.
