The Senate returned from a recess Monday to tackle the issue of passing the AHCA, which passed through the House of Representatives May 4, according to Roll Call.
Though the House and the Trump administration have pressed GOP senators to pass the bill as it stands, there has been little unity from Senate Republicans on the issue. While Sen. John Coryn, R-Texas, recently said in an interview that he believes the Senate can pass a bill by the end of July, Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., told a local radio station that he doesn't foresee the passage of any bill in 2017.
Some senators believe that passage of the AHCA isn't even the most important issue facing legislators right now, as Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., has stated that focusing on stabilizing current ACA markets for 2018 is a more imperative task.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has been vocal about the difficulties of creating a bill that will garner the necessary votes for passage, which leaves many in the Senate unsure of whether or not a bill can be passed before the Senate breaks again for their Independence Day recess.
