Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare has changed the leadership of its volunteer board of directors.
Here are nine things to know about the changes.
Bob Fort will complete his term as board chairman after three years in the position.
1. Aside from his role as chairman, Mr. Fort was a member of the Governance and Audit & Compliance committees.
2. Mr. Fort joined the Sentara board in 2004 and will remain an active member, assuming the position of chairman of the governance committee.
3. Mr. Fort retired in 2007 from Norfolk Southern Corp. after three decades in its corporate communications department. For the past 11 years, he has been a corporate vice president and member of the management committee.
4. Prior to joining Norfolk Southern, he was Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and a legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sandy Harris will take over as board chairman.
5. Mr. Harris will begin his new position Nov. 16, 2016.
6. He is current vice chairman of the board and a member of board since 2009.
7. He has been serving as chairwoman of the medical affairs committee, which oversees the quality and patient safety performance of Sentara.
8. Mr. Harris has been involved with the investment management business since 1980.
9. In early 2008, Mr. Harris, a former U.S. Army captain, played a key role in the founding of Norfolk-based portfolio management firm Palladium Partners.
