Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, Calif., part of Redwood City, Calif.-based Verity Health System, is implementing a workforce reduction to decrease labor costs.
Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. Robert A. Minkin, interim president and CEO of SLRH, said the layoffs are part of hospital efforts to grow its business and improve its operating margin. "We have looked for ways to improve upon delivery of care so that we continue supporting our many wonderful programs. Across Verity Health System, our hospitals simply cannot continue to function like we have in the past. We must become more efficient and effective at delivering high quality care," he said in a prepared statement.
2. Layoff notices began last month, and implementation will likely occur over a period of weeks or months, depending on the union collective bargaining process.
3. SLRH won't know the number of layoffs until the bargaining process is completed.
