The United States Department of Agriculture has announced $234 million in loans and grants for 135 rural development projects across the U.S., including a number of grants and loans to rural hospitals and hospital districts.
The funds are part of USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities Program. Selected projects are intended to create jobs, attract business and provide necessary services — including healthcare, library services and schools — to rural residents
Hospital-related projects receiving funding include:
• Haxtun Hospital District (Colo.) — $7,318 grant to upgrade the fire suppression system in a hospital
• Mahaska County Hospital (Iowa) — $23 million direct loan to expand the hospital.
• Bedford Regional Medical Center (Ind.) — $46.8 million direct loan to build a critical access hospital.
• Memorial Hospital (Kentucky) — $40,391 grant to purchase a truck to transport a mobile medical unit.
• St. Helena Hospital Service District #1 (La.) — $1.2 million direct loan to develop an emergency medical records system
• Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital (Mich.) — $19 million direct loan to replace the hospital.
• Chippewa County War Memorial Hospital (Mich.) — $3,872,000 direct loan and $18,077,000 guaranteed loan to construct a replacement hospital and renovate the emergency department.
• Community Memorial Hospital Association (Minn.) — $15 million direct loan and $9 million guaranteed loan to expand and renovate a critical access hospital.\
• Charles Cole Memorial Hospital (Pa.) — $2,500,000 direct loan to expand and renovate the emergency department.
• Clarendon Hospital District (S.C.) — $17.7 million direct loan to pay off interim financing.
• Faulkton Area Medical Center (S.D.) - $225,000 direct loan to finance additions to a clinic.
• Custer Community Health Service (S.D.) — $2.7 million direct loan to build an addition to the hospital and make improvements to the clinic.
