Interviews with GOP leaders in New Hampshire show Mitt Romney could still win the Republican nomination, despite having signed healthcare reforms in Massachusetts similar to the federal reforms, according to a report by Politico.
Mr. Romney has revamped his message on his role in the Massachusetts reform law. In a recent speech in this early-primary state, he said while the Massachusetts law "wasn’t perfect," it wasn't a federal action that dictated to other states.
"These were Massachusetts problems that they were addressing," he said. "It wasn’t trying to force a one-size-fits-all mandate on all 50 states."
"He can absolutely get past this," said John Stephen, the GOP nominee for New Hampshire governor who lost last year. "When you're a governor, you need to do what's best for your state."
