Many congressional Republicans have been hesitant to rally around a recent court ruling that deemed the ACA unconstitutional, The Hill reports.
Though Republicans attempted to repeal the ACA in 2017, during the 2018 midterm elections, Democrats successfully attacked them over their attempts to weaken protections for pre-existing conditions. GOP Senate leader Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said he expects Democrats to do the same with the court ruling.
"The thing to remember about the judge's ruling is it has no immediate impact," said Mr. Blunt on NBC's "Meet the Press." "Healthcare will be used as a political issue way beyond the ramifications of one district judge making a ruling that has no immediate impact."
Mr. Blunt would not say whether he supported the federal judge's decision this week in Texas, according to The Hill.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., incoming speaker of the House, said that while an independent judge made the decision, it was enabled by Republican policies.
"Republicans are fully responsible for this cruel decision and for the fear they have struck into millions of families across America who are now in danger of losing their health coverage," said Ms. Pelosi.
