A bipartisan report from the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University's School of Law in New York City concludes that the Trump administration has interfered with federal science so much that it has hit "crisis" levels, The New York Times reports.
While other administrations have manipulated federal data and science for political gain, they have not gone as far as the Trump administration, according to report. The White House has edited scientific policy letters and testimony, barred scientists from speaking and relocated scientists when their research conclusions contradict administration policy, among other actions, according to NYT.
"Now, we are at a crisis point, with almost weekly violations of previously respected safeguards," the report says, according to NYT.
The report calls on Congress to act by creating standards that protect scientific independence and create rules for how and when political officials work with federal scientists.
