Question: What keeps you excited and motivated to come to work each day?
Lynn Torossian: It is an exciting time to be involved in healthcare. As consumers get more engaged, there are new challenges that require creative thinking to meet demands. At the same time, we still need hospitals and it takes creativity to continually provide value in one of the higher cost settings. The bottom line is it's exciting to be creative and innovative in finding our path forward.
Q: If you could pass along one piece of advice to another hospital executive, what would it be?
LT: New leadership skills are required for you and for your entire team — invest in both!
Question: What's one conviction in healthcare that needs to be challenged?
LT: I'm not sure that this is a conviction, but for those of us in the provider part of the world, our revenue is really the cost of healthcare. This means that to truly impact the cost of care, we must reduce either price or utilization, or both. I am not sure that this has been fully realized yet.
