After Randolph Medical Center in Roanoke, Ala., announced it is unable to continue operations through a bidding process to sell the hospital, Roanoke Health Care Authority voted to close the hospital that same night, according to an Anniston Star news report.
Two weeks ago, the local healthcare authority announced its search for a buyer for the financially ailing hospital. In a press release, the authority made clear its intention to shut down the hospital if a buyer was not found within 30 days. It was later made known that the hospital could not continue operating and was closed down before the 30-day bidding process ended.
The following day, patients were admitted to other surrounding hospitals. Hospital staff members were not notified by administrators or other senior-level management employees, according to the news report. The hospital instead directed employees to the Alabama Career Center through a link on the Randolph Medical Center's website.
Mayor Mike Fisher has invited residents to attend the next hospital authority meeting for any further questions.
