Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center closes regional blood donor center, affecting 34 employees: 3 things to know

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., part of Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services, shut down its regional blood donor center in May, according to the Burbank Leader.

Here are three things to know about the closure.

1. Thirty-four employees were laid off as a result of the closure.

2. In light of the closure, officials are working to help employees transition into new positions with Providence or find employment somewhere else.

3. The hospital, along with other Providence Health & Services hospitals that received blood through the hospital's blood donation program, will now receive blood and blood products, such as platelets, from the American Red Cross, according to the report.
