Chicago-based Presence Health, the largest Catholic health system in Illinois, is reportedly considering shutting down Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, according to a Crain's Chicago Business report.
Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, a 269-bed in Chicago's northwest neighborhoods, has been hemorrhaging money for several years. In the six-month period ended June 30, the hospital lost $7.6 million alone, according to the report.
Presence Health CEO Sandra Bruce told Crain's Chicago Business that "we are evaluating all of options. It's an organization that has been losing money and will need to have some sort of repurposing, restructuring." No timeline was given on a decision. If the hospital did close, it would likely end all inpatient services but keep the emergency department.
Presence Health was formed in 2011 when Mokena, Ill.-based Provena Health and Chicago-based Resurrection Health Care merged. Despite the possibility of closing Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Presence Health is still looking to expand, as it signed a letter of intent to form an affiliation with Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill., in June.
