Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, Ind., has eliminated about 70 jobs to consolidate job responsibilities and adjust to increased efficiency created by technology, according to The Times.
Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. The eliminated positions are mainly administrative, support and clerical, according to Karen Keltner, spokeswoman for Valparaiso-based Porter Health Care System. The eliminated positions also include some technical and clinical jobs.
2. Ms. Keltner told The Times that those impacted by the layoffs have the opportunity to interview for open positions within other areas of the Porter Health Care System and severance will be provided to those who are eligible.
3. Although the roughly 70 positions have been cut at Porter Regional Hospital, hiring is occurring in other areas of Porter Health Care System to meet demand in the emergency room and critical inpatient care.
