Poll: 31% of Americans view House-approved AHCA favorably

Americans overall view the ACA more positively than the American Health Care Act, which passed the House May 4, according to the latest Kaiser Health Tracking Poll.

The poll, conducted from May 16 to May 22, included a nationally representative sample of more than 1,200 adults.

Here are six poll findings.

1. Fifty-five percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of the AHCA, compared to 31 percent who have a favorable view.

2. To compare, 49 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the ACA, the poll found.

3. Sixty-seven percent of Republicans view the AHCA favorably, while 12 percent view the ACA favorably, according to KFF.

4. The number of Americans who believe their healthcare will worsen if the ACA is repealed increased after the House passed the AHCA, according to the poll. Before the AHCA passed the House, 28 percent of Americans said the cost of healthcare would worsen if the ACA is repealed. Following the AHCA's House passage, 45 percent of Americans said the cost of healthcare would worsen if the bill becomes law.

5. Prior to the House approval of the AHCA, 21 percent of Americans said their ability to get and keep health insurance would worsen if the ACA is repealed. After House approval of the AHCA, 34 percent of respondents said their ability to get and keep health insurance would worsen if the AHCA becomes law.

6. Approximately 8 percent of Americans believe the Senate should pass the AHCA as is, the poll found. Twenty-six percent of Americans, however, believe the Senate should make major changes to the healthcare bill. Twenty-four percent believe the Senate should make minor changes to it, and 29 percent don't believe the Senate should pass the bill.
