A Politico report details a claim filed in August 2018 by CMS Administrator Seema Verma, requesting reimbursement for $47,000 worth of luxury items stolen while she was delivering her first public speech against "Medicare for All."
Ms. Verma has faced increased scrutiny in recent weeks after reports surfaced that healthcare policy proposals have been delayed due to a rift between the administrator and HHS Secretary Alex Azar.
The latest chapter in the saga involves a $47,000 claim for goods stolen from an SUV during her speech, which she filed at the instruction of HHS lawyers, according to Politico. The health agency reimburses officials for goods lost on work trips, though this does not include jewelry, a CMS spokesperson told Politico. Ms. Verma was ultimately reimbursed $2,852.40, according to the report. Her stolen jewelry, which totaled more than $43,000, was not reimbursed.
