Six organizations representing America's providers and health insurers released a joint statement opposing the Graham-Cassidy healthcare bill Sept. 23.
The letter rejects legislation proposed by Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., who issued a last-minute revision of the ACA repeal and replacement bill Sunday to garner more support. The American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Hospital Association, America's Health Insurance Plans, the American Medical Association, the Federation of American Hospitals and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association signed the letter.
The organizations noted the bill's timelines create "an impossible task" for state and industry leaders to "completely transform their individual insurance markets and Medicaid programs in little more than a year."
"While we sometimes disagree on important issues in healthcare," the organizations wrote, "we are in total agreement that Americans deserve a stable healthcare market that provides access to high-quality care and affordable coverage for all. The Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson bill does not move us closer to that goal. The Senate should reject it."
Instead, the organizations called for a bipartisan solution maintaining consumer protections outlined in the ACA.
