Nurses from Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, Ohio, are planning a 24-strike and picket line on Oct. 19, according to a Chronicle-Telegram report.
Leaders of Service Employees International Union District 1199 gave Mercy officials the required 10-day notice of a strike yesterday. Nurses' contracts expired Aug. 31, and negotiations have been at a standstill over benefits, pensions and wages, according to the report.
The union is seeking an annual raise of roughly 3 percent for nurses, but a hospital spokesperson had previously said that the nurses earn about $4 more per hour than nurses at other area hospitals, according to the report.
