North Hawaii Community Hospital in Kamuela, an affiliate of Honolulu-based The Queen's Health Systems, cut six positions, or 5.5 full-time equivalents.
The cuts, which represent less than 2 percent of the hospital's total workforce, were part of efforts to reduce costs, NHCH said in an emailed statement to Becker's Hospital Review.
"In order to continue to meet our mission of providing, in perpetuity, quality healthcare services to the people of Hawaii, we have implemented a variety of cost-savings initiatives," the statement reads.
The hospital said it chose the affected positions based on restructuring and volume. Cuts included both clinical and nonclinical positions.
But NHCH noted eliminating jobs is never an easy decision.
"As we go forward, we must continue to improve operational efficiency, remembering that patient care is always the priority," the hospital added.
