Hendersonville, N.C.-based Park Ridge Health has sent a letter to Gov. Beverly Perdue urging the state to protect competition against Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health System as part of the health system's Certificate of Public Advantage agreement with the state, according to a Times-News report.
Mission has been operating under a COPA since it merged with St. Joseph's Hospital in 1995. The agreement is intended to ensure the merger would not significantly reduce competition in the market.
A recent state-commissioned report found that under the current COPA, Mission could increase prices higher than the COPA seeks to allow. The letter urged the state to institute the recommendations in the report and limit Mission's employment of physicians to 20 percent of the market total in order to protect competition, according to the report.
Mission recently announced it would create an outpatient center with Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, which will be located just four miles from Park Ridge.
