Healthcare executives from the New York area have been named in a government corruption case involving a state senator and assemblyman, according to a Crain's New York Business report.
The lawsuit alleges that New York Senator Carl Kruger and Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. accepted bribes from David Rosen, CEO of MediSys Health Network, which is the parent company to four New York hospitals. Robert Aquino, former owner and president of the now-closed Parkway Hospital of New York City, and Michael Turano, MD, an OB/GYN with hospital privileges at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston, were also named in the 53-page complaint.
The government alleges that Mr. Kruger has accepted approximately $1 million in bribes from Mr. Rosen, Mr. Aquino and other defendants since 2006. The government accuses Mr. Boyland of profiting from a no-show job at Brookdale University Hospital, one of MediSys' facilities.
