Kansas City, Mo.-based Children's Mercy Hospital is switching food vendors, resulting in the layoff of about 100 contract workers, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
The hospital has been using Sodexo as its food service vendor but is slated to begin using Aramark.
A Children's Mercy spokesperson did not give the Journal a reason for the food vendor move, but she told the newspaper the hospital hopes laid-off Sodexo employees, who are contracted with the hospital, will gets jobs through Aramark.
“We offered employment opportunities to all employees and are pleased that 96 percent will be working with us," an Aramark spokesperson wrote in an email to the newspaper.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with Missouri Sept. 18 stated that 96 Sodexo employees will be laid off, with an expected separation date of Nov. 8. The layoffs primarily affect food service workers, cooks and utility workers.
