Mount Sinai Roosevelt rebrands: 7 things to know

Mount Sinai Roosevelt, part of New York-based Mount Sinai Health System, is getting a new name, according to a news release.

Here are seven things to know about the name change.

1. Mount Sinai Roosevelt will be renamed Mount Sinai West.

2. Kenneth Davis, MD, president and CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System, said the name change is in line with the health system's long-term brand strategy to create consistent naming throughout. "Many of the facilities in the health system start with 'Mount Sinai' followed by an identifier," he said in a news release. "We want anyone who has a healthcare need to know there is a Mount Sinai facility in their neighborhood with equivalent quality, and then to choose the facility that will best serve them."

3. Although the hospital's name is changing, it will continue all services, the same insurances will be accepted and the same number of people employed.

4. The Roosevelt legacy will also be maintained and honored with a garden at the main entrance named in honor of the Roosevelt family, and with a plaque in the main reception area.

5. The new name will be phased in over time, with the first changes seen now on all Mount Sinai websites, accessible here. Officials said changes to signage will occur in phases over the coming months.

6. Other than the recently renamed Mount Sinai Brooklyn and Mount Sinai West, there are no immediate plans to change the names of other hospitals in the health system.

7. In the meantime, The Mount Sinai Health System is investing in Mount Sinai West. Mount Sinai West recently added a Kidney Stone Center, innovative treatment programs for intracranial hemorrhage and complex aortic aneurysms, and has plans in place to expand its orthopedic service.

The hospital also is building new operating rooms, a new pre-surgical testing area and has made improvements to central sterile processing to increase capacity to sterilize surgical trays.

Additionally, the health system revamped its information technology infrastructure at the hospital, including transitioning to one EHR across all Mount Sinai Health System hospitals and outpatient locations.
