Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, Calif., is implementing a workforce reduction that will affect 165 employees, according to a Modesto Bee report.
Hospital officials said 40 employees will lose their jobs as part of the reduction. Another 125 employees will have their work hours cut or their positions eliminated, but they will be offered other jobs with the hospital — some of which do not include benefits.
The changes are slated to take effect Jan. 15 across more than 25 clinical and nonclinical departments at the 423-bed hospital. With roughly 2,900 employees, the changes will affect about 5 percent of the hospital's workforce.
Memorial CEO Daryn Kumar said the cuts are tied to a drop in patient volume, as the hospital's patient census decreased by 8 percent this year, according to the report.
