Meet Ardent Health's executive leadership team

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Ardent Health, a for-profit system with 30 acute care hospitals and more than 200 sites of care spanning six states, is seeking a valuation of $3.15 billion for its initial public offering.

Here is information on the executives leading Ardent: 

Marty Bonick, president and CEO: Mr. Bonick has helmed Ardent since 2020. Prior to joining the health system, he was the CEO of PhyMed Healthcare Group, a national provider of anesthesia and pain management services. He also previously served as a division president at Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.

FJ Campbell, MD, chief medical officer: Dr. Campbell has been with Ardent since 2017. He previously served as the vice president of chief medical services at CHS from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, he was the chief medical officer for CareSpot Express Healthcare, an urgent care and occupational outpatient services organization.

Ethan Chernin, president of health services: Mr. Chernin joined Ardent in May. He oversees Ardent’s ambulatory strategy and supports its move toward value-based care. He joined the system from Healthmap Solutions, a kidney health management company. He also previously served as system vice president of population health at Tampa, Fla.-based BayCare Health System.

Anika Gardenhire, RN, chief digital and information officer: Ms. Gardenhire joined Ardent in September. She previously served as the chief digital officer and regional vice president of digital and clinical systems at Centene. She also previously served as assistant vice president of digital transformation at Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare.

Alfred Lumsdaine, CFO: Mr. Lumsdaine has served as Ardent's finance chief since 2021. Prior to joining the health system, he served as CFO for Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health from 2018 to 2021.

Steve Petrovich, chief legal officer: Mr. Petrovich has been with Ardent since its formation in 2021 and served as general counsel for its predecessor, Behavioral Health Corporation.

Carolyn Schneider, chief human resources officer: Ms. Schneider joined Ardent in 2021. She previously served as the chief human resources officer for Corizon Health, a prison healthcare contractor.

David Schultz, president of hospital operations: Mr. Schultz has been with Ardent since December, first serving as president of hospital operations in an interim capacity before being officially appointed to the role in April. He joined Ardent from Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Health System, where he spent nine months as the system's president and CEO. He also previously served as senior vice president of operations for Tacoma, Wash.-based Virginia Mason Franciscan Health.
