Medtronic, a Dublin, Ireland-based medical device manufacturer, plans to lay off 185 employees when it closes its distribution center in Joliet, Ill., according to the Chicago Tribune.
Medtronic will close the Joliet distribution center by December, as the company seeks to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of its operations, Medtronic spokesman Fernando Vivanco told the Chicago Tribune.
Employees affected by the closure are being offered severance and benefits, and Medtronic is assisting them in finding other jobs.
The layoffs at Medtronic are among nearly 1,500 job cuts reported by Illinois employers to the state in July, according to the report.
