LSU Health Shreveport in Louisiana Looks to Cut Another $7M to Offset $14M Shortfall

LSU Health Shreveport (La.) officials are attempting to cut $6-7 million in order to balance a $13.7 million budget shortfall, according to a Shreveport Times report.

So far, health system officials have identified approximately $3 million in savings through several measures, including utilizing lower-cost natural gas and eliminating an in-house nursing pool. Supply costs are next on the chopping block, according to the report.

The cost-savings would be in conjunction with approximately $7 million in new revenue through shorter patient stays, a more robust referral process and recruitment of specialists, according to the report.
