Lower Oconee Community Hospital Closes

Lower Oconee Community Hospital in Glenwood, Ga., has closed its doors, becoming the fourth shuttered rural hospital in Georgia in the past two years, according to a report by The Telegraph.

The 25-bed hospital may restructure into an urgent care center, according to the report, and only some of the hospital's 100 employees have been laid off. A precise figure was not provided in the report.

Lower Oconee Community Hospital had been struggling financially and did not have "sufficient volume to support the expenses," Karen O'Neal, the CEO, said, according to the report.
