Five-hundred employees at Louisville-based KentuckyOne Health were recently laid off, and 200 additional vacant positions have been eliminated, according to a report by The Courier-Journal.
KentuckyOne Health is attempting to cut $218 million from its budget by the end of fiscal year 2015. In addition to the workforce reduction, the system is also closing the emergency room at Medical Center Jewish Northeast in Louisville April 1, according to the report.
Employees affected by the layoffs will receive severance pay, extended benefits and outplacement services, according to the report. The system provided no specifics as to what positions were cut, but officials told The Courier-Journal the "impact to our patients was minimal."
