Kentucky Hospitals Contribute Nearly $1.5B in Community Benefit

A recent study by the Kentucky Hospital Association found that hospitals in the state contributed more than $1.48 billion in community benefit during 2009, up from $1.06 billion in 2008.

The 130 hospitals in Kentucky contributed $353.7 million through absorbing bad debt, $304 million in Medicaid losses, $221.8 million in charity care, $128 million in Medicare losses and $49.7 million in community health improvement services, among other areas of community benefit spending.
