The Kentucky Hospital Association was quick to cancel a gubernatorial fundraiser after the local Lexington Herald-Leader reported the association urged hospital members to donate more to candidates to ensure "access" after the election.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the about-face just one day after the initial coverage, which was based on an email sent Sept. 27 to members from Bud Warman, KHA vice president of member engagement. Mr. Warman called on members to give more to Andy Beshear, the Democratic candidate for governor, as donations from members had so far overwhelmingly been given to Republican Gov. Matt Bevin.
KHA President Nancy Galvagni told members Oct. 1 that the email had not been "reviewed or approved through proper internal channels" and that KHA and Mr. Beshear jointly agreed to shut down the fundraiser, according to the report.
