John Heer Jr., former president and CEO of Tupelo-based North Mississippi Health Services, is the recipient of the Baldridge Foundation's 2016 Harry S. Hertz Leadership Award.
Here are six things to know about the award and Mr Heer.
1. The award, established in 2013, is designed to recognize individuals who "demonstrate exemplary behaviors consistent with Baldrige Core Values."
2. Al Faber, president and CEO of the Baldrige Foundation, expressed pleasure in Mr. Heer receiving the award for 2016. "We are proud to recognize John for his exemplary leadership," he said in a news release. "He is the only leader to serve as CEO of three recipient organizations of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. John is a servant leader who has delivered unprecedented value and results to the organizations he has led. He clearly demonstrates role-model behaviors that are consistent with the core values of the Baldrige Framework."
3. Mr. Heer attributes his receiving the HSHLA Award to a servant leadership philosophy, a relentless focus on people and utilization of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.
4. Organizations Mr. Heer has led have received numerous achievements including:
- Fortune Magazine's "Best Companies to Work For" list three years in a row
- 99th percentile in employee engagement
- 90th percentile physician satisfaction scores
- 99th percentile customer satisfaction scores
- The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals list and Everest Award Winner
- The American Hospital Association/McKesson Quest for Quality award
- The Verispan list of the top 100 Integrated HealthCare Networks
5. Mr. Heer's most recent organization, North Mississippi Health Services, was the first healthcare company to receive the Baldrige Award twice.
6. The 2016 Harry S. Hertz Leadership Award will be presented in April.
