The interim CEO of Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Texas reportedly resigned from his role, effective Feb. 3, the hospital's board confirmed to KTRE-9 News, an ABC News affiliate.
Anita Kite, president of the Nacogdoches County Hospital district board of directors, provided a statement to KTRE-9 News confirming interim CEO Steven Smith's resignation. She said Mr. Smith submitted his 30-day resignation notice to her in a Jan. 4 letter.
Mr. Smith told the board in his letter that he accepted the CEO position on an interim basis and that his personal and career focus was still on finding full-time employment. Mr. Smith said he is leaving Nacogdoches Memorial for a permanent role at a different institution.
"While the timing is unfortunate, the board is moving forward in a positive direction," Ms. Kite said in a statement to KTRE-9 News. "Though we're sorry to lose Steve, this will not impair the mission and goals the board of directors is focused on. … The executive committee of the board has already met and formulated a plan of action that will be recommended to the board at the next regular meeting on Jan. 22."
