Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., chairman of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, said Republicans are approaching agreement on a healthcare bill, according to a report from The Hill.
Lawmakers are still at work, despite a two-week recess, according to the report. Rep. Meadows told a radio news station House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., was reviewing two options on Tuesday, according to the report. He also said lawmakers plan to vote as soon as possible, "even perhaps before we return back to D.C. in 13 days."
The Hill reports that the biggest point of disagreement right now among Republicans are insurer requirements, such as the ACA's provisions for guaranteed issue, community rating and essential health benefits. These requirements are said to drive up the cost of premiums, but many worry healthcare would be unaffordable or unavailable for people with pre-existing conditions without the requirements in place, according to the report.
