House passes stopgap bill: 4 things to know

The House approved a short-term funding bill Thursday night to finance the government through Feb. 16, and the burden is now on the Senate to approve the bill in order to avoid a government shutdown, according to The Hill.

Here are four things to know about the latest developments with this legislation.

1. The bill passed 230-197, with only six Democrats voting for the bill and 11 Republicans voting against it.

2. House GOP leaders were able to pass the bill after securing the support of many conservative Freedom Caucus members by promising to consider military spending within the next 10 days.

3. The bill included six years of funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program, which has not had long-term financing since its previous five year agreement expired Sept. 30.

4. Senate Democrats are threatening to reject the bill and force a government shutdown unless Republicans include protections for immigrants under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
