House Democrats plan to release their drug pricing bill in September, The Hill reports.
An aide of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told The Hill the plan will include provisions to authorize direct negotiation between Medicare and drug companies. It would also apply Medicare-negotiated rates to private payers. The bill includes a provision to tax pharmaceutical companies if price negotiations stall, according to the report.
Democrats are waiting to release the bill until after Congress' upcoming recess, so pharmaceutical companies do not have an opening to pick apart the bill, according to the report.
