“Medicare for All” legislation to replace private coverage with a government insurance option is moving forward in Congress, according to The Hill.
The House Rules Committee has scheduled a hearing on the legislation for April 30.
During the hearing, lawmakers will reportedly focus on a bill from Reps. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., and Debbie Dingell, D-Mich.
“It's a serious proposal that deserves serious consideration on Capitol Hill as we work toward universal coverage," Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., the rules committee chairman and a co-sponsor of the Medicare for All bill, told The Hill.
According to the rules committee, next week's hearing will be the first congressional hearing on Medicare for All legislation.
