Hospitals partner with community orgs under new AHA-led program

The American Hospital Association and its affiliate, the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, launched a program aimed at closing gaps in health equity, the organization said Sept. 26.

"The 2018-19 program is a pilot to help us strengthen our understanding of how to build a meaningful national community of practice for healthcare organizations that supports the cultivation of strong, sustainable partnerships through local health equity interventions," Jay Bhatt, DO, AHA senior vice president and CMO, said in a prepared statement.

The program, Hospital Community Cooperative, is supported by the Aetna Foundation. The program tasks 10 AHA hospital teams with addressing health equity and public health issues within their communities. The teams are composed of AHA members and the community.

The yearlong program launched Sept. 26 and runs through next year.
