Daniel Levinson, inspector general of HHS, announced April 2 that he is stepping down from his role at the end of May, according to The Hill.
Mr. Levinson has led investigations into a range of healthcare issues during his 15 years as HHS inspector general.
"Under Dan’s leadership, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) has done tireless, invaluable work to protect program beneficiaries and taxpayer funds, improve the management and integrity of HHS programs, and respond to emerging challenges such as the ongoing opioid crisis," HHS Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement, according to The Hill.
Joanne Chiedi, who serves as principal deputy inspector general and has worked with Mr. Levinson for nine years, will take over as acting inspector general, according to the report.
