HCA Revenue Up 3.7% for 2Q

Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA has announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2010, including a 3.7 percent increase in revenue compared to a year ago, according to an HCA news release.

HCA's revenue for the quarter ended June 30, 2010 reached $7.76 billion, compared to $7.48 billion for the second quarter of 2010. Net income attributable to HCA increased 3.4 percent to $293 million, compared to $282 million in the prior year's second quarter.

Same facility admissions declined 0.3 percent in the second quarter of 2010 compared to the second quarter of 2009, and total surgeries declined 1.4 percent on a same facility basis.

Capital expenditures totaled $322 million for the company during the quarter. HCA also paid a $500 million cash distribution to holders of its common stock and vested stock options. Bad debt dropped 7 percent to $788 million, due largely to increases in charity care.
