Republican governors from at least six states are working on drafting legislation that would make it tougher to be eligible for Medicaid, pending White House approval, according to The Hill.
Governors from Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Wisconsin, Maine and Indiana are looking to implement work requirements, mandatory drug testing or higher premiums for Medicaid recipients.
President Donald Trump's administration would have to approve the changes, though HHS Secretary Tom Price and CMS administrator Seema Verma have been vocal supporters of states' rights to adjust their own Medicaid policies, and have backed work requirements and higher premiums in the past.
