Gerald "Jerry" Brink, former CEO of Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va., died Nov. 8, according to a Daily Press report.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Brink.
1. Mr. Brink began his career at Newport News-based Riverside Health System as an administrative resident and moved through the ranks to become president and CEO of Riverside Regional Medical Center and executive vice president of Riverside Health System. He retired after four decades with the hospital.
2. According to the report, Sarah O'Dorisio, a former Riverside employee, Mr. Brink "always showed care and concern and visited all areas of the hospital from their offices on campus."
3. Mr. Brink was stationed in Virginia for three years in the U.S. Navy after he graduated high school.
4. He earned an undergraduate degree at Kalamazoo-based Western Michigan University, and attended Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
5. Mr. Brink's wife said he had suffered from dementia for several years before passing at the age of 77, according to the Daily Press.
