Pamela Stephenson, who served as CEO of Atlanta-based Grady Memorial Hospital and as a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, died June 17, according to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was 73.
Ms. Stephenson served in the House from 2005 to 2020, when she resigned.. During her time in the Legislature, her efforts were intently focused on healthcare, according to the Journal-Constitution.
"She was a fierce advocate for the communities that she served," former state Rep. Howard Mosby said, according to the publication. "She was always concerned that we have to have the courage to advocate for individuals who can't fight for or speak for themselves, in a meaningful way."
Ms. Stephenson also served as CEO of Grady Memorial Hospital for eight months in 2008 and served on the hospital corporation's board.
According to her biography, her dedication to healthcare led to her appointment earlier in her career as the director of the State Health Planning Agency by former Georgia Gov. Zell Miller. The then-governor also appointed Ms. Stephenson to the State Medical Education Board.
