Florida Healthcare Organizations Face-Off for Agency Approval to Develop Hospitals

Two healthcare organizations are fighting for agency approval to develop hospitals in Florida’s Sumter County, where population growth is exceeding hospital capacity, according to a Star-Banner report.

Responding to a state report saying the area needs 81 hospital beds by 2016, the Central Florida Health Alliance and Hospital Corporation of America both applied for state permission to build new hospitals in Wildwood, Fla.

Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration will decide which applicant, if either, should receive the necessary “certificate of need” to proceed. The agency’s decision is expected on Dec. 10.
