End Health Care Alliance, comprised of three hospitals in New York, and health insurer United Healthcare/Oxford have failed to finalize a new agreement before the current contract expired, meaning nearly 3,000 New York residents under Oxford's self-insured plans will have to pay out-of-network costs, according to a Southampton Press news report.
In mid-September, the out-of-network change will affect another 12,000 beneficiaries with fully insured plans.
End Health Care Alliance includes Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital, Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead and Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. According to the news report, the healthcare alliance was negotiating for market-level reimbursement rates. However, United Healthcare argued those requested rates were significant and "would adversely affect thousands of United Healthcare and Oxford members and clients," according to the news report.
